For the second consecutive week Penn State faced a foe from the South Eastern Conference, and just like last week Penn State won because of defense. Alabama struck first in this heavyweight match with a run by their All-American runningback Trent Richardson. The Crimson Tide would not score again until late in the Fourth Quarter on a pass from McCarron to Maze. Penn State proceded to rip off 30 straight points after the Richardson touchdown due to the Penn State defense forcing 5 Turnovers: 3 interceptions and 2 fumbles.
The Penn State offense was slowed due to Alabama's suffocating defense, the Tides defense forced a opening series pick from McGloin. But that did not deter the junior quarterback from hooking up with his All Big Ten Receiver Moye for 7 catches and 140 yds with a touchdown.
